Almost anyone can have teeth whitening done today when there are so many options available ranging from mild treatments for normal, healthy teeth, to severe treatments for damaged, bridged teeth. But most ready candidates for teeth whitening include those who take large quantities of tobacco, tea, coffee or alcohol. Their teeth become yellow, even brown and in many cases mottled and striped. These people become conscious about their appearance. There are many professional treatments to all kinds of teeth problems; some of them are discussed below.

External staining caused by tobacco or food can be removed by professional cleaning methods. To have lasting results, the use of a cleaning or whitening toothpaste is recommended even after treatment. If you are just conscious about your look and want to improve the color of your teeth, then whitening strips or gels may work fine for you. More deep-rooted stains or the ones which cannot be traced without careful scanning can be treated with a bleaching method. It involves application of a bleaching solution (the concentration of bleach depending on the complication of your case) on the teeth. Over time, the yellowness of teeth is absorbed by the bleach leaving them whiter.

If you have sensitive teeth and gums, you should not consider bleaching at all. Instead, try using mild whitening products, or simply a medicated toothpaste or a whitening chewing gum. In rare cases, which involve extremely damaged condition of teeth, crowns and caps can help solve the problem and as a result the overall look will be whiter and healthier.

These minimal risks involved with teeth whitening make you reconsider your decision of having it done. Before using any of the methods, however, do consult your dentist and confirm that you qualify for the procedure.
